A true classic. The Macallan Fine Oak 10 Years Old, is aged in bourbon and sherry casks, which added layers of spice, caramel, and honey to a bright, youthful malt with a fruity character. Not overly complex but easy to embrace, this 10-year-old malt is an excellent entry-level single malt that’s also ideal for warm summer days.
White peaches, citrus fruits, and honey dominate the nose in this very appealing and youthful expression, hints of petals and faint brioche aromas in the background complement the scents of sweet smoke and white oak.
Fresh and lively, the palate offers a dense fruit core combined with malty flavors and an almost honeyed mid-palate with the subtlest oak spices, vanilla, and cinnamon extending towards the aftertaste.
Not extraordinarily long but attractive. The finish is infused with a heather honey aftertaste, and the oak spices really shine through for a warm, uplifting feeling.
Ten years aging in a very well-thought cask selection makes this expression the very definition of balance. The fruit is there, and so is the honeyed malt, while the oak spices and smoke are subtle and not overwhelming. An exceptional malt and a great value, ideal for those who love younger malts.
Bolder and richer, but with a similar vibrancy, The Macallan Triple Cask Matured 12 Years Old offers a honeyed malt, fruit, and vanilla. The 12-year-old-malt is a more intense expression of The Macallan’s style, but it has many similarities with The Macallan Fine Oak 10 Years Old.
