Available in selected specialist retailers, the Revival is a stunner in every way. It’s aged in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso Casks for 15 years to achieve an overwhelming character of cherries, chocolate and walnuts. It’s luscious and coating and, for many, the flagship whiskey for the distillery.
A saturated nose of candied black fruit, dark chocolate and hints of dried citrus peels and roasted nuts is nicely layered and harmonious. There’s a depth of aroma here, and PX casks immediate presence giving weight to the bouquet.
A honeyed richness gives life to this towering expression that coats the palate with the first sip. Expansive and vast, the palate reveals roasted cacao beans and even some espresso along with candied figs and dried orange peels.
A two-minute finish dominated by black fruit and honeyed dark malt. Hints of oak in the aftertaste bring the expression home.
Awarded double gold on its release, this 15-year-old expression is not only complex but balanced. Very much in the GlenDronach style, there’s chocolate richness and molasses rather than white fruit and freshness, but it’s that style that lures amateur drinkers and collectors alike.
You might want to try the GlenDronach Allardice Aged 18 Years that relies on dark flavors and aroma and lies on the heavy side, which is very characteristic of GlenDronach whiskeys.
