The GlenDronach Original 12 Years Old is the most balanced of the distillery’s expressions. There’s more fresh fruit here than in most of its collection, yet you’ll still feel the Sherry casks, the house’s signature style. From all 12 years old expressions in the market, this is one of the most complex.
Bruised golden apples and ripe pears, combined with sweet vanilla and hints of caramel, permeate the nose, allowing the diverse spices from the Sherry casks and the ginger notes to develop in the glass. This expression sits in the middle between fruit and oak spices, but it’s well balanced and in harmony.
Much creamier and smoother than most other 12-year-old expressions, and more complex as well. White fruit in the mid-palate balances the style out, and the vanilla flavors round it even more. An expansive palate that can benefit from a large ice cube.
The vanilla flavors, and to some extent, the caramel under-notes dominate the aftertaste as the white fruit gently dissipates, leaving a sense of freshness in the mouth.
Even when the GlenDronach wants to keep it simple, they just can’t. This 12-Year-old is complex and marvelously nuanced. Much more sophisticated compared to its neighbor’s expressions for the category. A very mature single malt with an old soul.
For many, The GlenDronach Revival- 15 Years Old is the house’s signature style, as it shows more warm, brown flavors and aromas and less fruit. That’s the distillery’s style, and people love them for it.
